Question 4- Evaluation (draft)

How has media technology effected your creative process?

Construction-

There has been a huge leap between our AS level work to our A2 video. Since our knowledge about media technology was limited last year we chose to stick to guidelines and not take any risks. However, over time we’ve developed our understanding of how to use various editing softwares which broadened our ideas and allowed us to experiment with them. For example photoshop was used a lot during the creative processes that dealt with our logo, font and digipack. With the development of our brand identity this also meant we had to incorporate the same visual notion within the album cover, merchandise, and website. Never the less we proceeded to test

Research and planning-

During our research and planning we made full use of our technology resources and knowledge to our advantage and showed various ways to exhibit our work. Youtube was a big part of our research because it made branching out on ideas extremely accessible. This is because when we found a video that closely related to the theme we were working towards it provides suggestions of similar searches. This was a huge benefit to us because it meant we could incorporate various media types such as TV adverts into our planning and construction of the video, this is how intertextuality become an extensive factor to our work. Because Youtube is a globally known website thats used by most of the population on a daily basic this made presenting our rough cut to a wide audience and gaining feedback exceedingly effortless. However towards the end of the making of the music video we needed to obtain feedback from a more specific audience, this is when we used Survey Monkey. This is a free website that allows you to write a set of questions and makes them available to send to people. We posted a number of short, quick questions to our more suited audience, such as people that would consider themselves "indie" and that appreciate and have more experience with music videos similar to ours. The questions included what were the most favourable parts, did you understand the storyline and if the looked professional as well as "indie".  For our digipack we used Photoshop to create the merchandise as well as the album cover and photoshoot edits for the website. Because of the forever growing development of technology it made experimenting with ideas for things such as photo effects and choosing the best applicable text for our images because if it didn't achieve the desired effected we could then replace it with another font or effect that was more ascetically pleasing. Da Font was an online website that has a colossal amount of texts that are feasible for everyone to use. By using this website it was very easy to change and adapt to our ideas for the

We added the track list, the CD, spines, the album title and all the copyright information needed to make it look like a real Album. These software programmes made it a lot easier to edit and arrange the photos.

When creating the website we used Wix. It is a website designer, it gives you simple templates and you can add pages and links and pictures. We took full advantage of this technology and create a fully functioning website that had a home page, a merchandise page and a keep in touch page.  We linked social media sites through the website such as the artists twitter, instagram and soundcloud. We added a magazine cover and photos of our star in text. We also used other websites that allowed us to create our own merchandise for our artist. We experimented with many different technologies to make our website look appealing.

This helped us to let our audience feel an attachment to the artist making her more sellable and our branding more successful. We used yourdesign.com to make merchandise for our artist, this included hoodies and phone cases. This helped us to sell and promote our artist even more.

Evaluation - Question 2

How successful have you been in the development of your brand identity?

SCRIPT-

Hayley- The campaign we made for our artist was successful because we managed to create and develop a strong brand identity across 3 forms, our digipack, website and music video. In our digipack we incorporated a colour scheme that was relevant to the “vintage” feel we were trying to portray for her by using a palette of browns, greens and other various neutral colours. Other elements of the mise-en-scene that contributed to the overall feel of the campaign such as the careful costume design and props such as leaves and sparklers all added to the change into a relatable, feminine, indie rock artist. Holly Hayes used to have a dark grunge rebellious identity that struggled to sell in the music industry, however we wanted to challenge ourselves and advance her look into something that would represent teenage girls.

Jennifer- After researching what is popular with the target audience of young teenage girls right now we discovered that making a personal issue aware to an audience then allows it to become relatable which then forms a relationship with the audience. This is how our basic concept of the music video was formed. As our target audience was mostly girls we wanted a strong sense of femininity across our campaign this included putting holly in things like pink dresses and props that included teddy bears. When picking the location for the girls room we wanted to reflect the feminine side of our artist and also make the change of the brand identity realistic.

Hayley- The website was another main part of our campaign that advertised the other two forms of our campaign as well as other key contributions. Our logo and font was carefully thought out considering the feedback and research we got from teenage girls in our area. After experimenting we developed our font from a bold floral to a plain sophisticated text, we then adapted from this to created a sophisticated spiralled font using the colours we chose to represent holly across the campaign. We also ensured that it was a feminine design. We used the same font throughout our website, merchandise and digipack so it became an iconic sign when branding our artist.

Jennifer- Our focal point throughout our whole campaign is of the artist. The website background and main focal point of the digipack is a photo of the artist. Within the indie genre we wanted to follow certain conventions to ensure the audience knew the genre we were trying to portray. Focusing the campaign around the artist is a main convention of indie which we wanted to exaggerate. The location also conformed to the indie genre with basic relationships such as woodland with natural feel. The woodlands are a representation of her memories and that explains why she runs away from them. This use of presentation is common in the conventions of the Indie genre. The story line is quite artistic and creative and we wanted to have that follow through our whole campaign.
